Drury honors its top faculty and students at convocation

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Aug. 26, 2010 — Drury University recognized outstanding faculty members at the 2010-2011 Opening Convocation. A student and faculty committee selected recipients of these awards. The committee receives nominations from students, faculty, administrators and alumni. Each of these faculty members is recognized for challenging, engaging and inspiring students both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Dr. Janis Prewitt-Auner, assistant professor of management, received the Faculty Award for Teaching.
  • Dr. Stephen Bomgardner, associate professor of music, received the Faculty Award for Scholarship.
  • Dr. Laurie Edmondson, associate professor of education, received the Faculty Award for Leadership.
  • Dr. Ioana Popescu, associate professor of biology, received the Faculty Award for Liberal Learning.
  • Mr. Bruce Moore, professor of architecture, and Dr. Daniel Ponder, associate professor of political science, both received the Faculty Award for Advising.

In addition, the Judge Warren White scholars were honored. These are the students with the highest grade point average after completion of the first year at Drury. Warren White graduated from Drury in 1904, and served as a Greene County circuit court judge for 36 years.
