SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Aug. 23, 2010 — Drury University has a record opening day enrollment of 1,633 in the traditional Day School eclipsing the previous record opening day enrollment of 1,615 set in 2007. Classes begin on Monday, Aug. 23, at 5 p.m.

“Even in the face of difficult financial times, students and parents continue to see the value of a personalized education, an outstanding faculty and a setting that offers activities for everyone,” says Todd Parnell, Drury president.

376 domestic freshmen join 123 domestic transfers, 35 international freshmen, 7 international transfers, and 9 exchange students for a record total of 550 new students on campus. Those numbers reflect a record number of freshmen, transfers and international students.

In Drury’s College of Graduate and Continuing Studies (CGCS), students have registered for more than 36,000 credit hours, including more than 10,000 online which is a first for Drury’s Online Education program. Registration for CGCS classes continues through this week, go to for more information.

Official enrollment numbers will come out later this fall following the census of Drury’s campuses across southwest Missouri.
