SPRINGFIELD, Mo., June 14, 2010 – The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will play the grand finale concert of the opening of Drury's O'Reilly Family Event Center on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 30. Tickets go on sale July 6 at 10 a.m. at www.drurytickets.com. Ticket prices will range from $45 to $125.
The O'Reilly Family Event Center project broke ground in May 2009, and the public will get its first look inside on Oct. 1 with a barbecue, concert and fireworks. That event will kick off a month-long celebration culminating with the building dedication and Grand Finale concert featuring Franklin on Oct. 30. More concerts and events are scheduled for the month of October. Those will be announced in the coming weeks.
Franklin is an 18-time Grammy Award winner with 20 number one singles to her credit. Her first number one hit "Respect" came out in 1967. In 1987, Franklin was the first female artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone magazine ranked her number one on its list of The Greatest Singers of All Time.
"I saw Aretha a few years ago in St. Louis, and she lives up to her legend," says Drury President Todd Parnell. "Her music spans generations, and her combination of powerful vocals, decades of success and class make her a great headliner for the O'Reilly Family Event Center."
