SPRINGFIELD, Mo., April 28, 2010 — Drury Summer Quest student Hayden Windmiller donated $600 to Drury’s Center for Gifted Education today to pay for himself and two other children to attend the summer experience for gifted students.

Hayden, a fourth-grade home school student who attends gifted classes at Willard South, had the idea to write letters to fifteen different businesses and individuals to raise the money to not only send him, but two other students as well. The nine-year-old hand wrote each of the fifteen three-page letters, and he collected the money from each donor in person. At Summer Quest, Hayden plans to take a web class and he will post the names of each of his donors on the website that he will create as part of the class.

The students who receive Hayden’s donated funds will be chosen based on need.

Summer Quest is one of Drury’s summertime gifted education programs that provide classes and activities for more than 450 children in grades K-12 each summer.
