SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Apr. 23, 2010 — Drury’s Ava campus has a new computer lab with 30 new computers for student use. The new lab provides students with high speed Internet access and a wide variety of software options.
“Many students, especially in rural areas, don’t have high-speed Internet access. That makes it difficult to conduct research or participate in online education. This lab gives them that access and it’s a real breath of fresh air,” says Jonathan Talley, Ava campus director.
The lab was funded by a $24,000 gift from 1958 Drury graduate, Board of Trustees member and Ava native Tom Kellogg. Kellogg attended both grade school and high school in Ava, graduating from Ava High in 1954. Now, Kellogg is Vice Chairman of Berkley Insurance Company in Old Greenwich, Conn. but says, “All in all, my Ava roots are very strong.”
All the computers have Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows 7 along with other options. The computer lab is located in the campus’s administration building and is open from 1:30 p.m.- 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
