SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Oct. 7, 2009 — The Drury University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has been awarded $78,000 by Edward Jones Investments to bring the benefits of clean water to developing regions in the world.
The gift continues a partnership with Edward Jones that began in 2007. Since then, Drury SIFE has worked with associates from the company to install bio-sand water purifiers in Asia, Africa and Latin America. These water purifiers significantly reduce the risk that accompanies the use of locally sourced water, and the latest grant from Edward Jones will ensure the sustainability of this joint effort throughout 2009-10.
"It is an honor for Edward Jones to join forces with the Students in Free Enterprise at Drury University,” said John Beuerlein, General Partner at Edward Jones and the Chairman of the Drury University Board of Trustees. “Our financial advisors look forward to working alongside these fine students in the important work of improving lives all across the world!"
Javier Detrinidad, a former Drury SIFE member who was instrumental in the development of this partnership, expressed similar excitement about the recent grant, “It’s great to see two great organizations working together to make the world a better place. This comes as a result of great team work; it helps fulfill Drury’s SIFE mission to changing the world and the Edward Jones’ philosophy of being a good neighbor.”
Drury SIFE completes a number of projects throughout the year, both locally and globally, and the partnership with Edward Jones will enable the team to maintain its global reach.
“This contribution attests to the value of our partnership with Edward Jones,” said John Taylor, faculty advisor for the Drury SIFE team. “We are absolutely thrilled that we will be working with Edward Jones associates to generate even greater benefits on a global scale in the year to come.”
