Sept. 6 The Negro Spiritual

Presented by Richard Todd Payne, professor of music, Missouri State University .  This will be an inspiring vocal performance by Dr Payne along with discussion of many of the American spirituals beloved by so many.

Sept. 13 & 20 Reading Cities

Presented by Professor Robert Weddle, Hammonds School of Architecture, Drury University .  These two presentations will investigate architecture and urban design as a way of "reading" cities and better understanding their histories and cultures. The presentations will draw upon examples of cities and other environments from around the world.

Oct. 11 Lithuania : New Day for an Ancient State    

Presented by Will Prigge, professor of history and political science, Drury University . Dr. Prigge will offer an update on this Baltic nation that has emerged from Soviet domination.

Presented by Dr. John Sellars, president of Drury University . Are there differences in the way people in the Midwest plan for retirement as compared with those living in the East?  Following a brief business meeting, IML members will be invited to meet Dr. Sellars, Drury's 15 th president. Nov. 1 & 8    Norman Vincent Peale Meets Martin Seligman: 

The Power of Positive Thinking and Learned Optimism    

Presented by Joseph F. Hulgus, professor of psychology, Missouri State University . This discussion will review the perspectives of Norman Vincent Peale (as reflected in The Power of Positive Thinking ) and M.E.P. Seligman; comparing and contrasting their points of view. The talk will cover the confluence of perspectives and practical life implications and applications will be addressed. Olin Room, Olin Library

Nov. 15   A Life in the Theatre

Presented by Robert Westenberg, professor of theatre , Drury University . Dr. Westenberg will share his experiences working in professional theatre in New York and from his acting career. He will share the events that formed his decision to leave the theatre and become a teacher.

Nov. 29 & Dec. 6 Cyprus : A Divided State on Europe 's Periphery

Presented by Dimitri Ionnides, professor of geography and geology, Missouri State University .  Dr. Ionnides will discuss the past, present and future of Cyprus , a region where Greeks and Turks live in tension.  Dr. Ionnides will also speak on the current status of the Cyprus people and their economy and what the future may hold. Dec.13 Christmas Party

A potluck Christmas party will be held in the clubroom at Cooper Estates at noon .
