What is LEAP?
LEAP is Drury's Leadership Enrichment Adventure Program which is organized through the Office of Transitional Programs. It is a 4-day excursion into the heart of the Ozarks that takes place each summer prior to New Student Orientation. The focus of LEAP is to accelerate friendships, enhance communication and social skills, and strengthen the ability for new students to handle challenges.
Why participate in LEAP?
LEAP provides the opportunity to experience outdoor adventure activities through team building initiatives, canoeing, camping, climbing and rappelling, and is sequenced to accommodate varying abilities and levels of experience. Incoming students who are interested in having a meaningful wilderness experience with other new Drury students are encouraged to apply.
Prior experience or knowledge of outdoor adventure activities is not necessary. Students will be accompanied by Drury staff and supervised by professionals during all activities.
College is a great time to learn and hone leadership skills. Through interactive discussions and self-assessments, students will develop a basic understanding of the 7 leadership skills used by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and how to apply those skills throughout their time in college. By the end of LEAP, students will be able to:
