This web site offers sample projects and curriculum for faculty.  It provides a look into what service learning is and some success stories from other schools.  There is a link to Learn and Serve America along with links to news articles dealing with service learning.

This article provides an introduction to service learning.  It gives tips for implementing service learning in the classroom so that it is helpful for the student, campus, and community.

Service-Learning: A Pre-Service Teacher’s Guide

This article offers answers to common questions involving service learning.  It also helps plan projects in which students are able practice what they are learning.  The article also includes links to project ideas, and additional resources that faculty would need when using service learning in the classroom.

This article includes a case study of a community college in the northwest’s service learning project.  Its looks at the how the project influenced and affected the community with which it partnered.

 

Chemistry:

This article gives a definition to service learning and the benefits for students.  It also includes a layout to plan a service learning project.  Additional links are provided.

 

Computer Science:

Service Learning in Introductory Computer Science

This article describes a specific project done in an introductory computer science class.  It also looked at the negative and positive qualities that the project offered the students involved in the class.

 

Criminology/Sociology:        

Mask Making: Incorporating Service Learning Into Criminology and Deviance Courses

This article provided a case study in which students in a Deviance course interacted with juveniles in detention.  This allowed the students to better understand the sociological construction of deviance.  The article lays out the project and addresses benefits and also some obstacles in the project.

 

Economics:

This site gives a checklist for planning a service learning project in an Economics class.  It also gives sample questions for debriefing, reflection, and evaluation after the project has been finished.
