Drury University Residence Halls

The impromptu pizza parties, late night talks and study sessions, outings about town to galleries, movies or hearing a local music group are part of the fun of living on campus and making friends. The Resident Assistants organize group events in and between the halls such as holiday decorating contests, the annual Super Bowl Party, and trick-or-treating within the halls for neighborhood children. The halls sponsor guest speakers, intramural sports teams, birthday parties and more.

Drury has three residence halls: Smith, Sunderland, and Wallace. Each offer unique living environments and architecture. Most rooms in Smith and Wallace are arranged in 2-bedroom suites, each sharing a bathroom, with a few private rooms also available. A suite is composed of four students and is gender specific. Sunderland has four private bedrooms and two bathrooms per suite arrangement. All rooms have a desk, chair, dresser, bed and closet space for each person and each individual room is equipped with a combination microwave/refrigerator.

Smith
Smith Hall (virtual tour) was erected in 1966 and named in honor of Drs. Wallis and Souter Smith. It houses 160 residents in 40 two-room units. Each suite consists of two rooms (approximately 15’7” x 11’6”) with an adjoining bathroom. The bathrooms have two closets, two sinks, a large vanity mirror, full-length mirror, a shower-tub combination, and a toilet. Smith has stationary furniture with a built-in desk and vanity combination, twin size bed with built-in drawers, and shelving units. Two closets, mini-blinds, and a single dresser are also part of the room fixtures. Microfridges, one phone jack, four electrical outlets, and two computer jacks for Internet hookup are also included in each room.

Sunderland
Sunderland Hall (virtual tour) officially opened to residents in January 2005. The new residential hall replaced the original Sunderland Hall which was built during the 1960s and houses 132 residents. Each suite has two bathrooms, four private bedrooms measuring 9’6” x 14’8”, with individual closets in each room. A large community closet is available within the suite for students who need extra storage. Sunderland has loftable beds, dressers with credenzas and desks with extra bookshelves. Each private bedroom has a Microfridge, two phone jacks, six electrical outlets, mini-blinds, and two computer jacks for Internet hookup.

Wallace
Wallace Hall (virtual tour) was erected in 1925 with an addition made in 1956. This hall was a gift made by Mrs. Louise Groesbeck Wallace in memory of her husband Washington Irving Wallace. It accommodates 130 residents. Wallace Hall south wing rooms are approximately 11’8” x 9’10” and north wing rooms are 15’ x 17’. Wallace Hall houses 28 suites with each suite consisting of two rooms with an adjoining bathroom. Each suite is capable of housing four residents. In addition to the suites, Wallace Hall has six rooms available for private housing. The rooms accommodate one resident each and bathrooms are shared with two other residents. The furniture in south wing consists of moveable dressers, desks, and loftable beds. North wing has a built-in desk/dresser/bureau combination with loftable beds. There is one closet per resident. Each room also consists of a Microfridge, mini-blinds, one phone jack, and two computer jacks for Internet hookup.
