This course examines the impact of culture on the development of the current business environment in China. Students will complete an in-depth study on a region of China, identifying the historical, social, economic, and political background contributing to the present day culture context of the citizens reflected in current international management practices.
Students’ will visit business enterprises and talk with business professionals about their experiences. With Beijing as home base students will take short trips to explore other areas of China. Possible visits include Shanghi, X’ian, and Tianjin. Touring businesses and cultural sites in these cities will provide more background to enrich discussion about the implications of cultural context on management challenges faced by companies operating in this area.
