F-1 Immigration Checklist for International Students

Maintaining F-1 Status

  • Have a valid Drury University I-20 for your current program of study.
  • Pursue a full course of study each fall and spring semester. Undergraduates must complete at least 12 credit hours; graduate students must complete at least 6 credit hours. Only one on-line class (3 credit hours) will be counted toward your full time enrollment each semester.
  • Make normal progress towards completing your course of study.
  • Apply for an extension of program before the expiration date on your current I-20.
  • Follow USCIS procedures for changing from one program or educational level to another (e.g., from a Bachelors to a Masters degree).
  • Follow USCIS procedures for transferring from one school to another.
  • Limit on campus employment to 20 hours per week while school is in session. (Full time on campus employment is permitted during vacation periods such as summer as long as you are enrolled full time in the semester before and will continue full time the following semester).
  • Refrain from off campus employment without authorization.
  • Limit authorized off-campus employment to 20 hours per week when school is in session.
  • Report a change of address or name to International Support Services within 10 days.
  • Within 60 days of completing your program of study and any authorized practical training, depart the US, apply for a change of status with immigration, or transfer to another school.
  • Maintain a valid passport. It is recommended your passport be valid at least six months into the future.
