About the English Programs

The Department of English offers two majors leading to a bachelor of arts degree. A student can major in either English or writing. The department also offers two minors.

The faculty doesn't merely instruct; it engages students in lively creative work. Among many other activities, writing majors may attend lectures and master classes by nationally known writers and editors, compete in campus literary competitions, and tutor in the Writing Center. Students also are encouraged and assisted in publishing their work by contributing fiction and poetry to the campus literary journals, the Bonfire and Gingko Tree Review, or by participating in campus readings of their work. The Department also helps majors find internships in publishing and other related fields.
