Instructor of Education – Elementary Literacy
The School of Education and Child Development at Drury University invites applications for a full time instructor in the area of Elementary Literacy Education to begin August, 2013. While likely an entry level position, appointment at advanced rank could be considered for appropriate candidates.
The Drury University School of Education and Child Development is recognized for excellence in preparing future teachers for the classroom. This position would address best practices in literacy instruction including language development, reading and writing instruction, literacy assessment, and children’s literature. The successful applicant would be expected to teach courses such as Methods of Teaching Language Arts, Methods of Teaching Children’s Literature, Analysis and Correction of Reading Difficulties, and other courses as applicable.
The position requires working closely with Drury’s partner schools and maintaining successful collaborations in the Springfield Public Schools partner schools’ faculty and staff for development and implementation of Drury’s methods courses. In addition, the successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to Drury University’s mission of integrating liberal and professional learning and to active engagement in the university community.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in literacy education or a related field
- At least three years’ experience teaching in grades K-6 in public school
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with school-based field experiences or practica to build relationships between university and P-12 faculty
- Experience with various teaching methods such as seated courses, blended courses, and online instruction
