2002 Heartland Conference Tennis Championships Drury Tennis Courts/G. Perry Tennis Courts/ Millwood Golf & Racquet Club/Cooper Tennis Center Springfield, Missouri Host School: Drury University

It's a Drury versus Incarnate Word championship match in both men's and women's tennis as teams from the Heartland Conference battle for the 2002 team title.

Women's Bracket:
While the rain stayed away for the most part, it did finally come and the semifinal match between the Drury women's team and St. Mary's University was sent inside. When that match was over Drury escaped with a 5-4 verdict after falling behind 4-1. But wins at #2 singles (Kara Sayle), #5 singles (Megan Fraser) and ultimately at #6 singles (Anna King) the Panthers of head coach Kim Adamson headed to the championship finals versus the Crusaders from the University of the Incarnate Word.

Incarnate Word women's team upset the #1 seed, St. Edward's University by the score of 5-3 to move into the finals. The UIW Crusaders will play Drury at 9 am. (if outdoors) or 5 pm. (if indoors). The match will be played at the Cooper Tennis Center in either case.

In other women's first-round action UIW won by default over Dallas Baptist University and St. Mary's beat Lincoln in a hard-fought battle, 5-3.

Lincoln then took fifth place by default over Dallas Baptist.

St. Mary's took third place by default over St. Edward's University.

Men's Bracket:
In the only first round match of the day, #5-seed St. Edward's University defeated #4-seed Dallas Baptist University, 5-0.

In the semifinal round, which was completed just before the rains came, Drury, which is ranked #3 in the nation and is the tournament's #1 seed, defeated St. Edward's, 6-1. The #2-seed, the University of the Incarnate Word, defeated St. Mary's University, 5-0.

St. Mary's took third place by default over St. Edward's and the championship has Drury battling Incarnate Word. That match is scheduled for 9 am. (if outdoors) or 2 pm. (if indoors). The match will be played at the Cooper Tennis Center in either case.
