Alumni Profile: Andrew Wells '91

Andrew Wells '91

Revered Architect, Educator, and Drury Volunteer

Andrew Wells joined Butler, Rosenbury & Partners in 1991 after he received his Bachelor of Architecture from the Hammons School of Architecture at Drury University. Ten years later, Butler, Rosenbury & Partners is the largest architecture/engineering firm in southwest Missouri and Wells has been a key to the firm's growth, championing strong design solutions to improve the built environment.

Wells is a licensed architect and leader of the Civic & Community Studio, which focuses on education, religious, recreation, and municipal architecture. He is responsible for all aspects of architectural design and development, client relations, marketing and project management.

Wells strives for simplicity and elegance in his work through the use of ordinary materials used in extraordinary ways. This is evidenced in the Warehouse 14 project, and underground warehouse that uses industrial bar grate, color and giant graphics to dignify the facility. He believes that good design does not have to cost a lot of money and bears that out with clients every day.

Wells' projects have been recognized with numerous awards for architectural design including the Central States Region Young Architect Award in 1997 from work on the Nixa Public Works Complex, a marriage of pre-engineered steel buildings and civic pride.

As an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), he has served as Design Award Chairman, a member of the Board of Directors for AIA Missouri, and as President of the Springfield Chapter. He has served as a member of the Community Talk Force Arts and Heritage Collaborative and is involved in church activities at Southpark Church. He is currently serving on the Drury University Alumni Council as President, is a member of the Leadership Springfield Class XIV, a Mentor in Drury's Alumni Connections Program, and has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Hammons School of Architecture.
