SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – On Monday, February 4, jazz flautist Galen Abdur Razzaq will perform and lecture at the Drury Diversity Center at the Historic Washington Avenue Baptist Church, 803 N. Washington Ave. Galen, originally from Montclair, N.J. is a major entertainment figure on college and university campuses across the nation. In addition to his stellar musical background, Galen is a riveting speaker on the topic of jazz and its historical significance.
Galen graduated from Rutgers University with a master of fine arts degree, and also studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has performed for over 30 years and has shared the stage with world renowned artists such as Billy Taylor, Houston Person, Melba Moore, Sun Ra, Sonny Phillips, John Patton and many others. His performance at the Diversity Center begins at 8 p.m. and is free of charge. This performance is a part of the events that the Drury University Diversity Center is presenting for Black History Month. The concert is free and the public is invited.
