How is Drury preparing you for life after college?
What advice would you give a new student?
What has been one highlight of your time at Drury?
"Drury is a really good school at preparing their students for life after college"
For Jenessa Adams, a senior from San Jose, Calif., college is more than just attending classes and studying, it's preparation for the future. An exercise physiology major, Jenessa takes as many opportunities as she can at Drury, from landing useful internships to posing questions to her professors.
"If you don't utilize those opportunities, you're just wasting your time," she says.
Freshman Memories
As a freshman, Jenessa was a member of the Pre-Health Studies Living Learning Community, which helped her get to know her classmates as soon as she got to Drury. In fact, many of her fondest memories at Drury were made with her freshmen classmates.
From walking to class and eating lunch together to studying and staying up late working on a class project, Jenessa says Drury students are happy to help each other.
"I think a lot of the students here, we rely on each other," she says. "Students have helped me succeed in my classes and I've also helped them."
Engaging with Faculty
When it comes to looking for someone to lean on, other students aren't the only option for Drury students. Jenessa says that professors also make themselves available to student, and maintaining open door policies for office hours and making courses engaging to students. As a small university, Drury professors have the opportunity, ability, and desire to get to know their students, not only by name, but as people.
"I'm always in their offices and asking them questions and they always help me out," Jenessa says. "It helps me really succeed and learn the subjects a lot better."
She gives particular credit to Dr. Rowley and Dr. Bruce Callen – two of her anatomy and physics professors – for preparing her for life after college.
By pushing students to do the best that they can, and through their passion for the courses that they teach, the professors at Drury show students the practical application of courses, in fun and engaging ways.
