Aigina, Greece: Service Learning

Set on the beautiful island of Aigina, this program offers students the opportunity to work with members of the local community on an impact project.  We will study the global challenges ahead and will be able to engage in a hands-on project to address those challenges. Global Futures is a capstone course for the Global Studies minor, bridging Drury's general education program with a student's major. The course explores globalization, assesses social and environmental issues, and investigates models for a sustainable future. Drawing on diverse voices, traditions and disciplines, the course helps students integrate personal and professional strategies to become reflective and engaged global citizens. In this course we will identify and explore our role in addressing global challenges.  We will consider responsibility both personally and at corporate levels.  We will discuss how global challenges require claiming responsibility. We will have an opportunity to actively engage in a service-learning project working with residents of Aigina to make a social impact.

* Program fee includes: round trip airfare, transportation to and from Athens airport and around Aigina when on group projects, health insurance through HCH, administrative costs, taxes, tips and gratuities for lodging and program meals.

**Personal expenses include: includes transportation to and from airport (Springfield, KC or St Louis depending on ticket costs at time of travel), passport, meals (lunches will be provided when working on projects and 3 group evening meals.  Breakfast and other evenings will be student responsibility approx. $500), personal items and souvenirs. The Drury Aigina apartments are fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, etc., students can save on food costs by taking advantage of this equipment.
