Director of Community Outreach and Leadership Development
I have served as the Director for Community Outreach and Leadership Development for the past three years, but have been part of the Drury family since 2006 when my husband joined the athletic department as a soccer coach. Go Panthers!
I earned my Master’s in Public Affairs from the Truman School at the University of Missouri and my focus was organizational and community change. I majored in Psychology and Spanish at Westminster College. I am very fortunate that I am able to combine what I am passionate about with my professional career. I started right out of college as an Americorps/VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) and have worked at a variety of educational institutions focused on community engagement and leadership development as well as serving as the director of a nonprofit. In my current role, I work with a wonderful team and we are dedicated to promoting active citizenship and leadership development through collaborations with our wonderful community partners, students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
In my free time, I enjoy taking my son to cheer on the Drury Men’s Soccer team, playing outside, watching movies, reading and volunteering.
I hope you will visit us in Findlay Student Center 117. Feel free to email me at email@example.com with questions, suggestions, or ideas.
I graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Science in Geography. I enjoyed learning about different cultures and their unique community issues, as I still do. I believe that as citizens we must take ownership of our communities and how they are functioning. I enjoy helping others become informed of social issues, especially through service. Service is a humbling experience that breathes understanding into all of us.
Outside of work and well inside of work as well, I like to have fun. Hemingway said, “When you stop doing things for fun you might as well be dead.” I agree. Canoeing, bike riding, backpacking, playing with my children, supporting local businesses, traveling, compartmentalizing, and having friends over are all on my top list of fun things to do. I feel at home volunteering at the Boys and Girls Clubs, my favorite color is green and every time I go to a sushi restaurant I overeat.
Hello! My name is Dwight Edward Bizzell, but I go by De. I am the Graduate Assistant in the Community Outreach and Leadership Development Department under the direction of Courtney Swan. I am from Sikeston Missouri where I Graduated from Sikeston Senior High. I started my Drury experience in the fall of 2008, where I was part of the Drury Living Learning Community (LLC). I can honestly say that I had the best four years a student could have at Drury University. While in attendance I was part of Greek life, Outdoor club and Drury FC. Almost a year ago I decided to continue my education at Drury by applying for the Masters of Communication with an emphasis in Integrated Marketing. This past May I received my Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Studies, and was asked to be the New Graduate Assistant in the Community Outreach and Leadership Development Department.
Outside of school you can find me trying to fish, hike, rock climb, or shooting. I’m not a big fan of staying still. There is nothing better than that view from the top of a mountaintop, or the fresh smell of the forest while trout fishing. You can usually find me down at Harrison Stadium kicking a soccer ball around or throwing the football around with the guys. When I am at home you will see that my TV is always on ESPN. I also like watching A&E “Duck Dynasty” and the Discovery Channel.
My duties at Drury include assisting in coordinating activities within the Department of Community Outreach and Leadership Development in the Findlay Student Center, Suite 117. Please feel free to stop by anytime and let me help you find volunteer and community engagement opportunities in the Springfield area.
The Department of Community Outreach and Leadership Development is very grateful for the student workers and their dedication. These students carry out many duties for the department by assiting, planning and implementing programs for the students at Drury University.
My name is Erica Ramsey and I am a senior here at Drury. I am a pre-med student pursuing a double major in Biology and Chemistry and a minor in Global Studies. I grew up here in Springfield, MO where I graduated from Kickapoo High School. I spend my time here at Drury involved in several different organizations. I am currently the Student Union Board President, which occupies much of my time. I am also involved in the Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta, Beta Beta Beta honor societies, Drury Ambassadors, Delta Delta Delta, Pre-health Club, and Drury Outdoor Club. Last year I was also chosen to serve as a student representative on the Student Advisory Board for the City of Springfield. This past summer I interviewed and was accepted into St. Louis University School of Medicine through the early acceptance scholars program. Once I graduate from Drury I will attend SLU for medical school with the dream of becoming a pediatric oncologist.
My name is Charleen Sims and I am a sophomore here at Drury. I am currently majoring in Biology. I plan to graduate and begin nursing school at Cox North in spring of 2015 as part of the duel-degree program. I grew up in Raytown, MO where I graduated from Raytown High School. So far, I have become involved at Drury through Zeta Tau Alpha, Panther Passport Program, Leadership Drury, and volunteering with DVC. I plan to get the most out of my time at Drury through participating in as many activities as possible and I work in the office of Community Outreach and Leadership Development so I can help others to do the same. After graduation from the duel-degree program, I hope to attend Rockhurst University for Nurse Practitioner school and then follow my dream of leading medical missions to help children in other countries.
