Counseling Center Offers Stress-Free Environment

It’s the one week of December that everyone has on their mind; finals week.

To lighten the pressures of final exams, the Counseling Center in the Findlay Student Center is offering a stress-free zone. It’s a place for students to hang out, relax and enjoy comforting snacks to relieve the pressure of finals.

Director of Counseling, Ed Derr says this is a new concept and will hopefully be beneficial to students.  “We know students are stressed, all semester really, but finals week is a traditional stressful time,” Derr says. “We want to try offering our office to be a place where students could come, hang out, study, nap, or whatever during the day.”

The Counseling Center’s “stress-free zone” will also be available next semester. In addition, Derr says that more stress relief strategies may be offered by then. “We may try meditation sessions or some guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation sessions next time.”
