Michael Mallory
Successful Author, Actor & Critic
Journalist and actor Michael Mallory, an outstanding alum of the Drury theatre, speech and communications departments, has covered the show business world from inside and out. During the 1980s he acted in more than a half-dozen films, including "Frances" and "Eleanor, First Lady of the World" and many TV shows and commercials. This proved an invaluable experience for his present position as an entertainment journalist for such publications as The Los Angeles Times, Daily Variety and Millimeter Magazine.
As a noted mystery short story author, Mallory has won several accolades. His story "Curiosity Kills" received a 1997 Derringer Award as Best Flash [under 1,000 words] Mystery of the Year by the Short Mystery Fiction Society. In 2000, he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Another story, "The Adventure of the Nefarious Nephew," was selected for the 2001 anthology "The Mammoth Book of Legal Thrillers" from Carroll & Graf.
He has published more than 250 articles and has become an internationally acknowledged authority on animation. BBC Radio, The New York Times, The Atlanta Journal, The London Independent, among others, have contacted him for interviews on animation. Mallory's book Hanna-Barbera Cartoons was a 1998 People Magazine Holiday pick. His latest book on pop culture: Marvel: The Characters and Their Universe, will be published by Hugh Lauter Levin Associates in October 2001.
