SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Nov. 5, 2008 — On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Drury University will honor veterans with a celebration on campus at 11 a.m. in Weiser Gym on Drury’s campus.

The celebration includes a flag performance by the Ozark High School Color Guard, the Drury Singers, and a trumpet performance of the national anthem by Dean of Students Dr. Tijuana Julian. The featured speaker is Bill Cantrell a Drury alumnus and World War II veteran.

Tammy Rogers, president of the Veterans Day celebration at Drury said, “This celebration allows the Drury community to honor and celebrate veterans on campus and throughout the community.”

Higher education opportunities are increasingly abundant for veterans through the new GI Bill. The new law that went into effect Aug. 1 is designed to pay for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan provides for financial aid for veterans to attend in-state public colleges as well as out-of-state colleges, private universities and graduate schools.

Veterans who attended Drury are encouraged to send information regarding their time served, branch of the armed forces in which they served, when they attended Drury and their thoughts to sac@drury.edu.
