Student is abuzz about Jeopardy! appearance.

Many high school students spend their last few days before school starts shopping for clothes and hanging out with friends. Kennedy Stomps, a 2009 DLA (and former SummerScape) participant from St. Louis, traveled to Los Angeles to tape the Jeopardy! 2009 Teen Tournament programs scheduled to air Monday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 13.

In February, Stomps, a "Jeopardy" fan and trivia buff, decided to take the 50 question online test to be a contestant. In May, producers asked her to do a test and audition in Chicago. During the tryout, she took another written test, played a round of "Jeopardy" and participated in a contestant interview like Alex Trebek does during each program. She did not hear back from the producers of "America's Favorite Game Show" until two months later and was shocked to have been selected as a contestant. In fact, out of 3,000 students who passed the online screening, only 350 were selected for the in-person audition. Out of this 350, 15 students were chosen to fly to LA to compete.

Jeopardy!(r) has been on the air since 1984, however, the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament began back in 1987. Hosted by Alex Trebek, the two-week tournament has gone on to award over $3 million in cash prizes to nearly 400 teenage contestants with millions of nationwide viewers. The winner of the tournament will bring home a cash prize of $75,000, with second and third-place winners getting $25,000 and $15,000, respectively.

Does Kennedy make it to Final Jeopardy? Is she a winner? Of course we're not going to spoil that for you. Find out for yourself if Kennedy wins by watching her compete at 3:30 pm daily during Teen Tournament week on KSDK Channel 5 in St. Louis. Or, to find out on what channel and at what time Jeopardy! airs where you live, visit www.jeopardy.com.
