DU Uncut to debut this fall throughout the Midwest and Southwest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Oct. 21, 2009 — Drury University announced today that DU Uncut will debut in the Ozarks on Ozarks Public Television on Oct. 24 at 11 p.m. DU Uncut marks the first time ever that a student produced music program will air in major television markets throughout the region. DU Uncut is shot, edited and produced almost entirely by Drury students in a television studio on campus.

The one-hour, 15-episode program is airing this fall in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield. With the exception of St. Louis, DU Uncut is running on PBS affiliates. In St. Louis the show is running on Higher Education Consortium Television (HEC-TV), a public access channel. The show now has the potential to reach millions of viewers.

Each of DU Uncut’s episodes features around 14 artists from Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee and Arkansas. Their genres range from rock, country, and gospel to jazz and classical music. All of the musicians are professionals who tour the four-state region.

DU Uncut began three years ago in a studio production class. Students needed subject matter to shoot, so Brian Shipman, instructor of video production, brought in Richie Rebuth to play electric guitar. Students now had interesting subject matter to videotape and musical artists had a chance to showcase their talent. A show was born. DU Uncut first aired in the Ozarks in February of 2007 on the Ozarks CW. Since August of 2007, the show has been off the air as producers prepared for a regional launch, which is now a reality.

  • All bands perform in TV Studio Class that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m.
  • Bands receive a promotional DVD for their performance and no monetary compensation.
  • First aired locally February 2007 for 26 weeks on The Ozarks CW.
  • Because DU Uncut is a product of academia it is free to PBS affiliates.
