TEA Paid Tutoring Program for Day School Students

Guidelines and eligibility details.

The following guidelines are to be followed to participate in the “for pay” TEA Tutoring Program.

  • To be eligible to receive payment for TEA tutoring university/college students must be in the final two semesters of their teacher education program. Only students committed to and completing practicum in the SPS site as part of the TEA will qualify to tutor in that site.

  • To be eligible to tutor students must have successfully completed 60 hours of college credit.

  • To be considered for TEA tutoring students must submit a copy of their negative TB test, background check and application (see below) to SPS.

  • During the fall or spring semester prior to their final semester students would be eligible to complete 1 to 30 hours of tutoring at $15.00 per hour paid by SPS. This tutoring can occur any time during the semester but it is not to be included as any part of the hourly practicum requirement of their university coursework. The maximum number of hours of tutoring any student can complete for pay during the semester is 30, there is no minimum number of hours.

NOTE: The earlier requirement for the students to complete the practicum hours for their course requirements prior to ANY tutoring has been removed to facilitate a more advantageous tutor schedule for the P-12 SPS students and staff. However, it is understood that by participating in tutoring students are agreeing to complete their institutions required practicum hours during that semester.

  • During their final semester students will be eligible to apply as tutors through their cooperating building principal in the schools “regular” tutoring program. Students that are selected for tutoring by the building principal will be paid at the rate of $23.64 per hour by SPS. In most cases the students will be involved in student teaching during that semester and would only be available to tutor before or after school. There is no maximum or minimum number of hours of tutoring a TEA student may complete under this option.

  • Tutoring opportunities will be planned and directed by individual SPS school administrators at each respective SPS TEA school.

  • SPS will be the fiscal entity providing payment to the TEA tutors.

  • The following forms are to be completed by the SPS site administrator:
    • Authorization for Timesheet Form Temporary Employees/Stipends Revised 08/21/08

  • The following SPS forms are to be completed by the TEA Student seeking/engaged in a paid tutoring position:
    • Application: Literacy or Mathematics Extended Learning Program 2009-2010. Mailed or faxed to SPS per instructions on form prior to tutoring.
    • Non-Exempt 2009-2010 Extended Learning Program Time and Effort Sheet. Faxed to SPS weekly per instructions on form as tutoring is completed. Signed by tutor (employee) and building principal.
    • Non-Exempt Additional Positions Extended Learning Program/Tutoring 2009-2010. Faxed to SPS weekly per instructions on form as tutoring is completed. Signed by tutor (employee) and building principal.
