Dr. Amy Lewis Receives 2009 Faculty Award for Leadership
Dr. Amy Lewis
Excellence of Drury's academic programs is accomplished through committed, visionary leadership. This year's Faculty Award for Leadership was presented to Dr. Amy Lewis at Opening Convocation on Thursday, August 27, 2009.
Dr. Lewis [see faculty page] is assistant professor of management in the Breech School of Business Administration. She has been a Drury faculty member since 2004. She holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from Indiana University-Bloomington and a B.S. in psychology from Arizona State University. Since her arrival at Drury, Dr. Lewis has worked to improve the quality of life for all members of our community. Starting from her service as a karate and self-defense instructor, she built a coalition that included Drury, the Family Violence Center, the Springfield Police, and the National Self Defense Institute, resulting in a series of workshops that equip participants to conduct self-defense and awareness training. She reinvigorated the faculty research series, providing a valuable way for Drury's teacher-scholars to share their scholarly work and receive feedback from colleagues. In addition, she played a leading role in establishing the Marcia Cooper Scholarship, which provides educational opportunities for working women with limited financial resources. She has been recognized with the 2009 Faculty Award for Leadership for her dedication to improving life for all members of the Drury community.
