Welcome from President Todd Parnell

August 26, 2009

August marks the beginning of another semester as a Drury student. It was 1965 that I found myself in your situation. Whether it is your first semester or last you are part of a special community. I hope you find the experience as fulfilling as I did.

During affluent economic times or tough ones, the Drury community rallies around each other. While I have been President, I have travelled throughout the Drury campus system visiting students and alumni, and across the country visiting alumni; there is one overriding message —they have all benefitted from their Drury experience. Another inspiring aspect of Drury is the unsolicited willingness of alumni to help another alum or current student, whether it is to find a job or settle into a new area. As you participate in Drury events, you will also find this true.

During the semester there will be numerous opportunities to broaden your experience beginning with Drury Night at the Springfield Cardinals on September 3. In honor of Sarrita Hun, a 2001 graduate, there will be a reception at 6 p.m., Friday, October 2 at the Pool Art Center on the main campus. Family Day is Saturday, Oct. 3 which includes a lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the Springfield campus. There will be a swimming meet—our swimming teams are ranked #1 in the nation-- and a volleyball game that day as well. Throughout the semester there will be numerous athletic events that you may want to attend. Even for the busiest of families there are events that you won't want to miss!

Like everyone else, time is a luxury few can afford but if you will make the time to obtain a well rounded Drury education, I think you'll find the experience even more rewarding. Remember that we are here to help you earn your college degree. It is a significant accomplishment.

Again, welcome and remember that my door is always open.

Todd Parnell ‘69

President
