Drury Students and Faculty Donate Time and Skill to Makeover

For Immediate Release: July 21

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., July 21, 2009 —Drury University Architecture Professor Traci Sooter and dozens of Drury students were part of a network television production to help a deserving family from the Ozarks get a new house in only one week.

Sooter and her students worked on a special design-build project for the Hampton family on their land near Bois D’arc, Mo. The Hampton’s had been living in an 800 square foot cottage that became extremely crowded when the family of four recently took in four additional nieces and nephews.

This is the third time Sooter and Drury’s Architecture students have been a part of the network television show. In 2005, Drury students constructed a bunkhouse at Camp Barnabas, a camp for developmentally disabled children, in Purdy, Mo.; and in 2007 Drury students worked on a project in Murfreesboro, Ar.

Drury University has pledged to each of the six Hampton children a financial aid package that will cover the cost of tuition to attend Drury. Drury University will be featured in the show this fall.
