Literary Guild Meets Wednesdays at Noon

This student group is open to anyone who writes.

Every college student is looking for their niche. They are constantly seeking out that one place where they fit in and connect and get to participate with an activity that they enjoy and they can take pride in. A group of writers and poets have created their own niche where they fall down their hole and get lost in the world of their creativity together.

The Literary Guild meets on Wednesdays at noon. Kyle Donahue is the Guildmaster and runs the meetings as the leader of the organization.

“Meetings are casual affairs, kind of like a tea party sans the tea, but we're working on that,” says Donahue. “We all meet in the 'Ivory Attic' of Pearsons Hall and bring in pieces of writing we've been working on to share. Someone will read a poem or a story they've got and then it's open to everyone.”

The group constantly discusses and critiques each others works, all the while staying friendly and positive. They pride themselves on the amount of laughter at their meetings and many of the student participants credit their Guild meetings as a high point of their week. The Literary Guild is a place where students of all majors get together and share their literary creations.

“I've been really impressed by the level of writing my friends are at, and the discussion their pieces spark always leaves me feeling like I've figured something about life in general, which is, of course, a great feeling.”

The Drury Literary Guild welcomes all students to join us each Wednesday at noon in 410 Pearsons for an informal gathering of aspiring writers. The meetings are open to all majors, not just writing, English and communication majors.

It is very informal and pressure-free. Students and faculty share work in progress, critique it, and talk endlessly about love and war, language and meaning, and spring training. For more information, contact Dr. Peter Meidlinger.
