LLC Frequently Asked Questions

Freshman Living-Learning Communities 2015-2016

1. Am I guaranteed a room in Sunderland Hall if I am selected to be in a freshman Living-Learning Community (LLC)?

Yes. All LLC sections will be housed in Sunderland Hall.

2. What is the difference for students who participate in an LLC and students who do not?

All freshmen at Drury must take CORE 101. Students who are selected to be in an LLC will live together in Sunderland Hall and be enrolled in the same CORE section. Students not in an LLC will still be enrolled in CORE 101, but will not live with all the students in their class.

The students enrolled in an LLC section also share the common interest of the LLC theme. This common theme aids in the transition to Drury and helps students to establish friendships and study groups.

3. Do I have to major in a certain subject to sign up for an LLC?

The Pre-Health Science LLC does have a major requirement; but, this is the only LLC that requires a certain major. See the Pre-Health Science LLC description for more information. Otherwise, students of all majors and minors, especially those who are unsure of their major, are welcome and encouraged to apply to any of the LLC sections.

4. Are there additional time requirements for students in an LLC?

Yes, but the additional time required is very minimal. Students are asked to participate in one out-of-class activity related to their LLC theme each month. These activities are usually decided by the students and faculty member in the class depending on what days and times work best for those involved.

5. What is the deadline to apply for an LLC?

The online application will be available for students in late October 2014. Completed applications will be accepted through April 15, 2015. Students must follow the requirements listed under the heading ‘How to Apply' in order to be considered for placement in an LLC.

6. When and how will I know if I have been selected to be in an LLC?

The LLC selection committee will mail letters to the home address of all applicants no more than ten days following the deadline of April 15, 2015. The students who are selected to participate in an LLC will be asked to confirm their placement by following the instructions in the letter.

7. If I am selected to participate in an LLC, is there an additional cost associated with the program?

There is not an additional cost for the program. However, all LLC sections are housed in Sunderland Hall which is comprised of single rooms. View the housing prices for the current 2013-2014 academic year. We will update the website as soon as the housing prices for 2015-2016 are available.
