SPRINGFIELD, Mo., July 17, 2007 — Drury University has been awarded a grant in the amount of $17,992 from Solid Waste District O in support of its growing campus-wide recycling program. Drury is the first institution of higher education to receive grant funding from District O.

Grant funds will provide for the purchase of recycling bins for each dorm room, as well as signage for Drury’s recycling facility.

“This grant will help Drury live up to our commitment to the Central Street Recycling Coalition by maximizing our recycling opportunities on campus,” says interim president Todd Parnell. “We appreciate the support of Solid Waste District O in this important effort.”

Solid Waste District O is funded by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and is governed by county commissioners from five counties, including Greene County, as well as the Springfield City Council.

“District O is very pleased to be involved with this project,” says Robert Hamilton, district planner. “The district and our executive board are very impressed with the level of commitment Drury has displayed from the top administration down to the individual student.”

Drury University has taken the lead among private universities in the Midwest in truly integrating a liberal arts education with comprehensive professional programs. At Drury, the power of intensive faculty and staff mentoring in small-class settings creates an atmosphere of high academic expectation grounded in a supportive learning community, an ideal combination which produces leaders ready to serve in a global community.
