KANSAS CITY - The 24th-ranked Drury University women's tennis team tuned up for its berth in next weekend's NCAA Division II Tournament by posting a 7-2 victory over Northwest Missouri State here on Friday.
The win improved Drury's mark to 20-3 on the season and gave first-year coach Jarrod Smith a victory over his alma mater, not to mention the school where he served as an assistant coach last season before taking over the Panthers' program.
Times have been announced for Drury's host role next week for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Cooper Tennis Complex. The Panthers will open against Ferris State (10-5) at 1 p.m. Friday, while Grand Valley State (21-8) will face Wayne State (13-9) at 9 a.m. that day.
The two winners will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with a trip to Kansas City for the remainder of the NCAA Championships at stake.
