Dr. Sharon G. Price is an instructor in Drury University’s School of Education and Child Development. She came to Drury after a career in public schools where she served as elementary classroom teacher, Principal, Director of Special Programs, and Assistant Superintendent, as well as adjunct professor for the University of Missouri-Columbia.
She wrote numerous federal and state grants; developed various exemplary programs (Pre K -12); and was instrumental in leadership at the state level in areas of school administration, certification, early childhood, and special/education and curriculum development. In addition, she was named to serve on the Missouri North Central Association State Committee and chaired NCA evaluation teams across the state and in Department of Defense schools in England, Scotland, Belgium, and Norway. She also chaired an International Studies Exchange with Thailand educators as part of a special project for the University of Missouri- Columbia International Studies Department and was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship to study “School and Community Conflict from an Historical Perspective” at the University of Virginia-Charlottesville. In addition, she has made numerous presentations at state and national conferences and served on Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) teams throughout the state.
Dr. Price participated in an Oxford University Round Table at Oxford, England entitled “Addressing the Special Education Needs of Children.” She was invited to participate due to her extensive experiences, special interest, expertise and development of programs for exceptional children.
Dr. Price is a past member of the Board of Directors for Springfield Boys and Girls Clubs and served as Personnel Committee Chairman; was a member of the Scholarship Committee and worked on the committee to select student-of-the-month- and youth-of-the-year candidates; was an elder and Trust Committee member for National Avenue Christian Church; was a member of the Springfield Vision 20/20 Education Committee; and served on the Community Partnership Educational Consortium. In addition, she chaired the Springfield (MO) R-12 District special committees for school choice programs and work development study, “Analysis and Plan for Improvement.”
Dr. Price currently teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes and has particular professional interests in child development, brain-based learning, diversity, teaching exceptional children, and differentiated instruction. She serves as consultant for public school districts and participates in the collaborative efforts of Drury and Yale Universities with Springfield R-12 School District for implements of the Comer Model.
