Professor Schie spent twenty years as an advertising/marketing communications professional before entering academia. He served as a copywriter and account executive for several advertising agencies, as well as marketing communications manager for companies both domestically and internationally. His first year of teaching was at the University of Oregon as a visiting professor in 1990. Prior to joining the faculty at Drury, Schie spent seven years at West Virginia University where he was honored as “ The P.I. Reed School of Journalism Teacher of the Year in 1998. He is the author of the advertising chapter of the textbook, Journalism 2001, published by CourseWise Publishing.
Schie has been a member of the Academic Committee of the American Advertising Federation for ten years, and served as chair of the national Committee for 2004-2005. In 2001, he was named Educator of the Year for the 9th District of the AAF (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska). This past year, he was presented with an award for “Dedication to the 9th District and Outstanding Achievement as National Academic Chair.”
