Welcome to the Hammons School of Architecture

This growing and dynamic program prepares students for careers in architecture and the allied professions

Hammons School of Architecture

Hammons School of Architecture is an accredited five year professional program offering a bachelor of architecture degree. Established in 1984, this growing and dynamic program prepares students for careers in architecture and the allied professions. Noted for combining a professional core with a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum, HSA is designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

During the first two years, introductory course work includes design, drawing, history and theory, computer graphics and construction technology in addition to classes in the liberal arts. Students who successfully complete these initial studies continue with advanced courses in architectural studies and the liberal arts for the concluding three years. A total of 169 credit hours are required for graduation. This includes a foreign study studio and a summer internship in an architectural office. The curriculum allows students to alternatively explore other fields and to complete majors in the humanities, the sciences, business administration and the visual and performing arts.

There are many co-curricular activities that contribute to a rich and meaningful education experience. Among these is a college convocation lecture series, an architecture lecture series, art and architecture exhibitions, collaborative faculty-student design competitions and travel.

The faculty is noted for its strong commitment to teaching and nurturing individual student development. The faculty-student ratio of 1:14 and the intimate scale of the architecture program and the college create an effective learning environment where academic rigor is matched with care and attention to individuals and personal growth. These qualities attract outstanding students from a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds.
