Program requirements: This program is available for 2 junior Drury students each year in the spring semester only. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater to be eligible to be considered. Although this is open to all Drury students, preferences will be given to French language majors and business majors. Applicants should schedule an interview with the Program Coordinator between March 15 and April 1. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be notified by April 15. The application deadline is March 15 the spring semester before studying abroad. All participants will be expected to attend mandatory orientation sessions the semester before travel.
Students have the opportunity to develop their interpersonal skills by participating in community service organized by ESCEM. If they want to have fun and hang out with other students, the best choice is L’Irish Corner – a famous bar which is very popular with the students.
Poitiers attracts visitors who attend numerous festivals throughout the year. Also, various day trips and activities are available. The city is a popular tourist destination, and is considered one of the major attractions in France. Students are continually entertained with various attractions and sight-seeing opportunities.
Poitiers, the capital of the Poitou-Charentes, is a charming town with a population of about 100,000 inhabitants. It is renowned for both its ancient history and for the theme park Futuroscope. The town is an hour and half from Paris by the high-speed train (TGV), from the Atlantic beaches, and from the Loire châteaux.
The city is friendly, with a high quality of life, and is always full of young people. Its history can be sensed all around the city, the Romanesque churches and art works are just extraordinary. The delicious French cuisine famous for frog’s legs, snails, or eels is enjoyed by visitors to Poitiers.
A GPA of 3.5 or higher is required to be considered. The deadline for application is March 15 of the academic year prior to participation in the program. Grades earned at the ESCEM do apply to the students’ Drury University overall GPA. All applicants will be interviewed and the strongest candidate(s) will be approved. All students participating in this study abroad program are required to attend four orientation sessions the semester before travel. Students traditionally do a semester abroad during their junior year. All courses are taught in English.
