On Guard at the Gate
A gentle curve of red brick and polished aluminum lettering now greets visitors to the Drury campus. The brick walls frame the new intersection of Chestnut and Drury Lane (the recently renamed Washington Avenue). The walls end at the new Shewmaker Gates, contructed in recognition of a gift from trustee Jack Shewmaker and his wife Melba. Gracing the gates, two bronze panthers sit sentinel, a gift from the estate of long-time Springfield developer and Drury supporter C. Arch Bay.
