Dr. Gail Lynn Slye joined the Drury University in 1997. She is a tenured Associate Professor with the School of Education and Child Development. Her previous professional experiences include twelve years as a high school communication arts and special education teacher in Missouri and six years in San Diego, California teaching at both the elementary and middle school levels.
Dr. Slye has life-time Missouri teaching certificates in the following areas: Kindergarten; Elementary Grades (1-8); Core Curriculum (7-9); Social Studies (7-9); Learning Disabilities (K-12); and Language Arts (9-12). Dr. Slye's extensive teaching experience served to influence her choice of dissertation topic during her doctoral studies: The Relationship between Teacher Empowerment and Teacher Satisfaction for Novice and Veteran Teachers.
Dr. Slye currently teaches undergraduate foundation and methods courses to teacher education candidates and graduate classes for the Master in Education programs at the St. Robert campus. She provides instruction in seated, blended, and online formats.
Research interests for Dr. Slye include technology implementation in educational settings, empowerment of educators, and the future of the teaching profession. Dr. Slye presents sessions and papers at various national and international conferences on a regular basis addressing the following topics: Multimedia Meets Multiple Intelligences: Training Teachers for the New Century; Developing Virtual Communities to Support Retention of Special Educators; Creating a Curriculum for the New Millennium; Technology Integration to Support Different Learning Styles; Developmental Pathways and Technology: The Foundation of Intellectual Excellence; Empowering Teachers Through Technology; Creating Connected Communities of Inquiry Through an Electronic Reserve System, and Supporting Teacher Training Programs with an Electronic Reserve System (ERes).
Dr. Slye is a member of the Board of Examiners (BOE) for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)/Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). She is listed in Who's Who in America (The Millennium Edition).
