The Drury Alternative Breaks Program is a student-led program offering affordable, service-learning trips over academic breaks.
The mission of the Drury Alternative Breaks Program is to encourage an increased understanding of social and environmental issues by engaging students in service while creating opportunities for the development of leadership and active citizenship skills.
There are two trips occurring over the 2014 academic spring break. Both trips count as an Engaged Learning credit and involve 32 hours of work with nonprofits.
Trip Option #1: Travel to Washington D.C. to work with nonprofits that focus on urban farming and sustainable development programs. Participants will be housed at an inner-city church.
Trip Option #2: Travel to Twin Lakes State Park in Virginia to perform forestry and park maintenance work. Participants will be housed at the Hill Lodge at the Twin Lakes State Park.
Dates of Trips: March 16-23, 2014
Trip Fee: $75 (covers everything) and is due by the first mandatory meeting on February 3rd. Limited financial assistance is available to those who would like to participate but cannot afford to. For more information regarding financial assistance contact our office.
Application are due by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014. Applications can be turned in to FSC 117 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. A copy of your health insurance card is due with application. Applications are available here.
