Artistic Influences in Mexican Culture - Tlaquepaque, Mexico

This interdisciplinary course meets for three weeks in Tlaquepaque, Mexico.  Tlaquepaque, Springfield’s sister city in Mexico, is noted for its vibrant culture and art scene, making it a perfect venue for a study abroad program.  Classroom sessions, taught by Dr. Sokol entirely on site at the hotel where students stay, cover local Mexican art, history, and culture.  Out-of-class educational experiences, led by Dr. Sokol and Ed Derr with the frequent assistance of local tour guides, include excursions to theatres, cathedrals, artisans skilled in glass blowing and pottery, mariachi bands, and even a tequila factory.  Tlaquepaque sits as a suburb of Guadalajara, a modern city larger than any in the state of Missouri and offering untold cultural adventure.
