Treasurer

Treasurers are the financial organizers of student organizations that maintain funding knowledge and provide direction for programs and activities of the group and develop future potential through effectively managing the group's money in relation to the group's activities, meetings and programs. Treasurers work closely with Campus Advisors and general group members to fund activities, manage group events and programs and promote the financial mission and purpose of the student organization.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer

  • Leads and mentors members on financial matters
  • Oversees or implements all funding for programs
  • Pays expenses and collects revenue and organizations dues
  • Main point of contact for all organizational financial matters
  • Keeps financial records of the organization
  • Prepares and submits financial reports to members
  • Prepares annual budget
  • Prepares all budget requests for funds
  • Is familiar with accounting policies & procedures
  • Advises members on financial matters
  • Coordinates fundraising activities
  • Represents organization ad financial functions
  • Remains fair and impartial during organization decision making processes

Attributes of a Good Treasurer

  • Meticulous: Competent and comfortable as the person in charge of the money for the organization. Attends meetings, programs and group activities.
  • Organized Understands and knows the regular operations needed to maintain a well-run organization. Knows what is happening financially with the group at all times…funding issues, fundraising plans, expenses, revenue sources, etc.
  • Noble: Earned respect through being trustworthy, honest, and demonstrates a genuine interest in the welfare of the group. Comprehends and conducts timely and professional financial communication with all stakeholders regularly.
  • Educated: Familiar with the rules, policies, and regulations of the university and the operational documents of the organization. Makes good decisions.
  • Year-Round Consistency: Willing to assist the organization when necessary. Enjoys being associated with the group and is very involved.
