Nancy Johnston joined the Department of Music in August 2007 as secretary after serving 12 years in the Hammons School of Architecture at Drury as administrative assistant. Nancy began her working career as administrative assistant at the Greene County Medical Society, the Missouri Academy of General Practice and Southwest Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. She became the office coordinator for an OB-GYN medical group before becoming a stay at home mom. Just prior to coming to Drury, she worked at the Springfield Public Schools in the grants office and in an elementary school.A highlight for Nancy was the opportunity to travel with the Drury Singers on their tour in 2003 to The Netherlands and France. Her son was a member of the Drury Singers, while he was a student. Her heart strings are pulled each time the group sings Sing Me To Heaven. She received Drury's Staff Member of the Month in November 1998 and also July 2002. Students recognize Nancy for being a strong student advocate and "always there for them." She served as a Drury Parent Orientation Leader from 2002-2005. Nancy is a Springfield native and attended college at SMS (now MSU) and Drury College (now University). She enjoys traveling, reading, and gardening, but most of all, she enjoys her role as nana to four fabulous grandchildren. Boards and organizations she has served on or participated in are: Reading Is Fundamental, Hospice Program of Joplin, and Muscular Dystrophy Association. She has been instrumental in establishing children's reading programs as well as other programs through her children's schools both in Joplin and Springfield.
