Putting on the Lips

What is it?

Putting on the Lips, known around campus as POL, is an annual lip-synching competition organized by Pi Beta Phi. The event is open to all campus organizations and is a great chance for groups to support a wonderful cause, promote their organizations, and have some fun! The event is held in November in Clara Thompson Hall. This year, POL will take place on Wednesday, November 13, at 8:15. Tickets can be purchased for $6 in the Commons or CX before the event, and will be $7 at the door.

Why do we do it?

POL is special to the members of Pi Beta Phi because it honors the memory of Andrea Newbold, a Pi Phi sister who was killed in 2001 by a drunk driver. Andrea was a passionate advocate for autism, and the proceeds from POL are donated to a fund in Andrea’s honor.

Where does the money go?

Funds from POL are donated to the Andrea Newbold Fund, which supports local non-profit, Equi-librium Therapy Center, or ETC. ETC offers individuals with developmental disabilities the incredible chance to work with horses and work past certain aspects of their disabilities. This costly and effective therapy is not typically covered by insurance, and the scholarships the Andrea Newbold Fund provides are incredibly valuable.

How can I help?
