The program objectives are aligned to national and international professional standards in Special Education with emphasis on acquiring advanced content knowledge to support individuals with diverse needs and on demonstration of skills in the delivery of research based instruction. This program is designed for persons who are previously certified in an area of education and does not lead to initial certification in Special Education (see DATSE program to follow for certification option). In addition, this program is appropriate for professionals working in agencies that address the needs of individuals with exceptionalities and where teaching certification is not required. Note that the coursework in this program may be completed through online or blended course formats. Blended courses have some designated seated sessions with typically, over half of the sessions conducted online. Although distance learning options are emphasized, faculty teaching coursework in Special Education support graduate students through varied distance mentoring options and encourage contact within scheduled office hours and designated course support sessions.
