Dr. Stephen Jones came to Drury in 1968. He was a professor of biology and Director of the Environmental Studies Program before his retirement in 2008. He received his B.S. (Mathematics and Education, 1962) and Masters (Biology, 1964) from Indiana State University and his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in zoology (with specializations in limnology and ichthyology). Dr. Jones teaches General Zoology, Field & Systematic Zoology, and Lake & Stream Ecology.

He has been involved in the study of the environmental health of lakes and streams in southwest Missouri. In 1999 he received a Faculty Research Grant to study the biotic integrity of the Finley River using the index of biotic integrity of fish communities to assess stream health. He was also a co-recipient of a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Drury University, Missouri State University, Wonders of Wildlife Museum and the James River Basin Partnership in 2001 to assess the ecological health of the upper White River basin tributaries using the index of biotic integrity of fish communities.
