Tom Whitlock is a songwriter and publisher who co-wrote five songs for the movie “Top Gun”.  “Danger Zone” was number one in the United States.  “Take My Breath Away” was number one in nearly every country in the world and earned him both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.  Mr. Whitlock has written or co-written songs featured in hundreds of popular movies and television shows.Mr. Whitlock co-wrote the official theme of the Seoul Olympics, entitled “Hand in Hand.”  He also wrote the official theme “Un Estate Italia” for the 1990 World Cup in Milan, Italy.

Mr. Whitlock has won a number of awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) for songs receiving the most air play in a given year.   He has received over 50 gold and platinum record awards.  As a recording engineer he was given the award for best pop recording by the British Society of Recording Engineers.   He was recognized with the Drury College Distinguished Alumnus Award for Career Achievement in 1998. “Take My Breath Away” has been ranked #26 out of the top 100 songs of the last 100 years. Tom was honored at the Library of Congress for this song in 2012.
