Science Undergraduate Research Symposium (SURS)

SURS is an annual symposium highlighting undergraduate student research in the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, environmental biology, exercise physiology, physics). Students conducting research with Drury faculty in any of these disciplines are encouraged to submit an abstract for the symposium.

SURS 2022 will be held April 19, 2022, from 3 – 6 p.m. in Reed Auditorium.

Abstract Submission

Drury University’s chapters of Beta Beta Beta and American Chemical Society are calling for students to submit an abstract of their research for presentation at the Science Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Abstracts should be submitted by 5pm April 7, 2022

Abstract Submission: submit document by email to Kevin Ritter (kritter@drury.edu) with the subject line “SURS 2022 abstract”

Abstract submissions

  • must be from original research conducted by a Drury student in a science discipline (biology, chemistry, environmental biology, exercise physiology, physics),
  • should contain the title of the presentation
  • should indicate all the authors in the following format: Student Presenter’s first and last name, first and last names of any other research contributors, and Faculty Mentor’s first and last name
  • should be between 250-300 words in length and must include a sentence stating the study objective, a brief statement of methodology, a summary of the results obtained, and a sentence stating the conclusion,
  • must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. April 7, 2022,
  • will be used to select presenters by a Symposium Committee based on project and abstract quality.

Abstracts will be approved for acceptance by the Symposium Committee.

Each accepted abstract will be allotted 15 minutes for oral presentation including time for questions. Multimedia equipment will be available. All questions should be directed to Megan Ealy.
