Dr. Tom Russo to Present at the International Medieval Congress
Dr. Tom Russo's research paper “The Romanesque Coleby Font Group: A Design, Distribution and Iconographic Analysis” has been accepted to be presented at the International Medieval Congress at the University of Leeds (UK) in July 2018. It will be presented in the session "At the Cutting Edge of Digital Memory: The Online Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland."
This newly identified collection of medieval baptismal fonts is the first known group outside of southern England. The group of eight fonts were manufactured locally in Lincolnshire during the 12 – 13th century. The paper explores the quarry source for the stone, the geographic distribution of the fonts, their common characteristics as a group, unique features within the group and the iconography of both their form and imagery.
