Honor Roll of Donors

A Message from Dr. Cloyd

My inaugural year as president of Drury University has been full and rich with new relationships, new challenges and opportunities – a shared experience of embarking on the renewal of our capacity to continue delivering on our mission. Early on, I coined the term GRATAHAD. Although I joked that it came from the ancient Aramaic language, it actually is an acronym inspired by my direct observations of this incredible institution: Great, Remarkable, Affirming Things Are Happening At Drury. This is indeed a true reflection of the state of our university – and it is in large part the result of the collective generosity and thoughtfulness of the people whose names you’ll find below.

It is my honor and privilege to thank you for your gift during the last fiscal year. This past year was a strong one for alumni commitment and fundraising at Drury, and it is my promise to you, that we will continue through our many initiatives to build on the prestige and distinction that is Drury University.

We are currently engaged in major planning and positioning initiatives to accomplish these things in the coming years. Our objective is to raise Drury’s profile so that it is visible from even greater distances, and recognized for the distinct atmosphere and education it provides to our students.

We can only realize that goal if we reach for it together, which is why your support is vital. As Lyle Reed, chair of our Board of Trustees, has articulated: Drury’s enduring road forward to our preferred horizon has always been a course charted in great part by alumni. It is the alumni, I would add, who continually pave this road for future generations to travel as they seek out their own horizons, their own preferred futures.

Your commitment during 2016-17 helped Drury continue to build on its legacy of success. The Princeton Review again named Drury one of the best colleges in the Midwest, and Drury was listed in U.S. News & World Report’s “Midwest Regional Universities” rankings for the 18th consecutive year. Your gifts helped make it possible for our debate team to win a national title, for 25 student-athletes to be named NCAAII All-Americans, and for our students to donate tens of thousands of volunteer hours helping the Springfield community. Your gifts are part of the reason we can say with pride that 96 percent of recent graduates surveyed reported they were professionally employed, in graduate school, or taking a gap year within six months of graduation.

In the coming school year, I want to continue to meet more alumni and hear, in your own words, how Drury changed your life. I will be traveling the country as well as attending events in Springfield. I especially encourage you to attend the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend October 12-15. I’m looking forward to attending many of the wonderful events planned for those four days, and I hope to see you there.

Many thanks,

J. Timothy Cloyd

From University Advancement

Thank you for your support and for helping to improve the lives of our Drury students.

We welcome new members into the Drury family every year as students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends, and I am proud to be a member of the Drury family. When describing Drury, the term “family” means much more than sharing a common affiliation. It is a sense of caring and a desire to help others that motivates us to support Drury.

Drury has been changing lives since 1873. You and I both realize what the University has done for us and for many people we know. It is essential that we continue to provide the opportunity for current and future Drury students to experience the exceptional education Drury has to offer.

In 2016, we launched a new annual fundraising campaign called the Annual Drury Experience Fund to provide support for scholarships and financial aid. This new initiative could not have come at a better time, because the incoming class in the fall of 2016 increased in size by more than 30 percent over the prior year. This fall we are welcoming yet another large class with a higher academic profile but also a higher financial need. The combination of these three factors (increasing enrollment, higher academic profile, and greater financial need) makes our support for scholarships and financial aid even more important than ever before.

Once again, I thank you for your support. The donors listed in this honor roll were responsible for gifts and commitments to Drury of over $9.4 million in the past year. Drury is a better place because of you.

As President Cloyd points out: great, remarkable, affirming things are happening at Drury, and the future is bright. It is a great time to be a Panther.

Sincerely
